Bayer: RealWear HMT-1

Bayer's roots go back to 1863. Founded in Germany, the company is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of knowledge all over the world. Bayer uses science to try to find solutions to everyday problems in order to meet the challenges of the constantly changing society we live in.

Today, Bayer is active in a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, nutritional supplements, cosmetics and crop protection. Its work involves doctors, pharmacists, farmers and consumers alike.

Bayer plays a pioneering role in many fields and is always on the lookout for innovative new solutions to improve the quality of its products and services.

The challenge

At its Autry-Le-Châtel site in France, Bayer specializes in producing tomato and bell pepper seeds. Due to COVID restrictions, it was no longer possible to welcome stakeholders to the site. However, monitoring the growth of the tomato and bell pepper plants plays an important role in the cultivation process.

Bayer therefore set out to find a solution that would allow stakeholders to visit its Autry-Le-Châtel site virtually so that the plants' growth behavior could be shared with them.

The solution

Bayer worked with VR Expert to develop the optimal solution for its use case. After extensive consultation with VR Expert, Bayer decided to implement the assisted reality headset RealWear HMT-1 in combination with the remote support software Microsoft Teams.

With the jointly developed remote support solution, Bayer can now take specialists on virtual tours of its greenhouses.

The RealWear HMT-1 is also used for remote audits and for communicating with external crop advisors.

With this solution, Bayer can now connect with specialists and stakeholders quickly and easily at any time.

"The RealWear devices have allowed us to greatly simplify our work processes. VR Expert advised us well from the start, and we are very satisfied. Good service and fast delivery!"

Christophe Montigny, Production Lead at Bayer
